Are you desiring to be discipled in all that God has for you?
The Visual Arts DTS is a 6-month discipleship course. It’s a full-on discipleship experience with a focus on photography.
This is not for the faint of heart, but for those who want to be challenged, developed, and creative. A DTS is the best environment for learning who you were created to be, realizing the strength you have to bless others and recognizing your calling to make a difference in the world. It is a time devoted to seeking after the Kingdom of God. You will learn how to initiate change in the world, starting in your own life and then releasing that into the community around you and the rest of the world. It’s an adventure that will change you life!
God wants to speak to us everyday. The DTS teaches you to confidently listen for what God is speaking over your life in a variety of ways. At the same time, it creates opportunities for you to hear God’s voice on what He’s saying about others. God has a vision and purpose for you life that He wants to share with you. The DTS will help you seek out the dreams that will motivate you, and fuel your passion. Then, you will learn the steps required to make those dreams a reality. It’s just the beginning of a journey in growing your relationship with God!
Do you desire to learn how to grow your gifts and skills in the visual arts and use them to bless the nations?
The Visual Arts DTS is about conveying truth and bringing to light stories that need to be told. It is these stories that motivate and form our society for change. Ultimately, it’s about you and your relationship with God. The Visual Arts DTS is not intended to dramatically increase your technical skill (although you will certainly gain valuable training and experience while you’re here). The intention of the Visual Arts DTS, first and foremost, is to help you learn to use your existing talent and to celebrate God and His creation. YWAM places a high value on the reality that God has blessed us in order that we can be a blessing to others (Genesis 12). Our Visual Arts DTS will spiritually and practically prepare you to see the nations transformed by the love of God through your creativity.
You will be INSPIRED and CULTIVATE growth in your relationship with God resulting in Christ-like character, which is based on solid Biblical foundations. The work of the Holy Spirit and the personal application of Biblical truth, especially concerning God’s character, the Cross and empowering Grace.

YWAM York’s lecture phase incorporates a live/learn environment, which means that while lectures are important, every aspect of life in York is important in the learning process. We want you to have the opportunity to put into practice what you are learning. Therefore, each week of lectures you will be involved in working in the community.
YWAM York’s lecture phase is 13 weeks, with 1 local placement. Two afternoons will be dedicated to the visual arts, one for a lecture focusing on creative development and technical training and the other for the a critique afternoon. There will be other times throughout the week set aside to work on your weekly project.
These week long topics will focus on different aspects of Christian discipleship. We are proud to involve some incredible, inspiring teachers from around Europe, who will teach on various topics, such as:
• Hearing Gods Voice
• Character and Nature of God
• Holy Spirit
We value the fact that everyone learns in a variety of ways. This is reflected in our schedule, which includes different opportunities for interaction, such as small group discussion, one-to-one mentoring, book studies, research and creative projects. The best environment for discipleship will always be within a community that seeks God. Discipleship begins with incorporating a regular rhythm of worship and prayer in a student’s day to day life in the YWAM community.
Learning isn’t simply sitting on your hands while listening to others speak. It’s about discovering for yourself, which happens by getting out there, meeting real people and being impacted by real experiences. The project that you get involved with may be a part of YWAM York’s project or a ministry that we support in York.
You will also get the opportunity to listen to God’s heart for the community and the city, and respond with action. This will be done by asking God what project he wants you, as part of a team, to initiate. You might very well be shocked by the results. These local placements allow you to put the lessons learned in your lectures into practice with the purpose of demonstrating the Kingdom of God.
The Overseas Placement is 10 weeks long, with 2 weeks of Debrief. These overseas placements are designed to challenge your worldview, and to offer you the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of God’s creation in a different cultural setting. Placements are a time of evangelism, discipleship and blessing the long term work that will continue to be there after the overseas placement is finished. Everything from the year will be brought together to teach, befriend and generally love on people. The activities during this time vary location to location. YWAM York has focus cities where we want to continually invest in what God is doing there, these include:
Edinburgh, UK or Birmingham, UK
